Folding clothesline is sometimes a great feat, especially if there are sheets. With this trick you will make much better use of space.
Drying the washing once it comes out of the washing machine is sometimes a challenge, especially for those who don’t have a large clothesline where everything fits and have to make do with a folding one. A tumble dryer can solve the problem and make this task much easier, but not everyone has one and it’s not a good idea to use it all the time or for all types of clothes, as it can shrink and wear out fabrics.
If you hang your washing on a folding rack, you will probably have found that you can’t fit all your clothes on it and you have to think of a thousand ways to make sure the washing dries properly. Take note, because this viral trick will work like a charm.
The challenge of hanging out the washing when there are sheets
When we put a large piece of fabric in the washing machine (such as a sheet or a bottom sheet) it is very likely that we will have problems hanging all the clothes on a folding clothesline of normal size.
The sheet will take up all the space and there will be no room for the rest, or we will have to find an ingenious place to hang the sheet (behind the door, between two chairs…). But the fact is that the folding clothesline already takes up a lot of space at home as it is, without having clothes hanging up elsewhere, right?
This has been solved with the trick we bring you today, which has gained great popularity lately.
The trick to make the most of the folding clothesline
The trick is to hang the sheet upside down, that is, hooking the ends to the folding wings (holding it with pegs if it is not an elastic bottom sheet) and letting it hang from underneath the clothesline. This way we won’t lose the space on the rods and we can hang all the other clothes on the inside of the clothesline, making much better use of the space.

Other tricks to make the most of the clothesline space
The trick we’ve just seen is very useful when we have a very large item of clothing that would otherwise take up the whole line, but there are other tricks that can also help you make better use of the space on the line. Take note!
- Drying clothes vertically: instead of hanging clothes horizontally, occupying the whole rack, you can hang them vertically, using two pegs. This is an ideal trick for drying clothes in a small flat and for them to dry quickly.
- Hanging clothes in a rainbow: this Japanese method of hanging clothes consists of hanging them on hangers and then hanging the hangers on the clothesline, placing the longest ones on the sides and the shortest ones in the center. In this way, you not only save space, you also help them keep their shape better and wrinkle less and dry faster.
- Hanging trousers correctly: we usually hang them folded in half, by the widest part, but we will save a lot of space if we do it by the legs, which are much narrower. Fold them in half lengthways and hang one leg on one rail and the other on the rail behind.
- Hang clothes strategically: take advantage of the small spaces between clothes to hang smaller items, such as socks or handkerchiefs.
- Use hangers or hooks: in addition to hanging clothes that should not be wrinkled on hangers, you can also use hooks to hang items such as caps, reusable bags or similar.
Sometimes, even if you optimize the space perfectly, there is so much clothes that there is no way they will fit on the clothesline.
In these cases, hang the lightest and thinnest garments first, which will be dry in no time. As soon as they are ready, quickly replace them with the other garments.
