An infallible and homemade trick that restores and brightens what time and weather have made opaque. Easy to make and very simple to apply.
Inside and outside the car, the plastics of the vehicles are increasingly present. But, of course, the wear and tear of the passage of time and the environment (contact with the sun, wind, rain, etc.) makes them lose their shine and become opaque.
And while there are several products that can restore their shine, there is a mixture of just three ingredients that has become the most incredible plastic reviver for the car. It is completely homemade and, what’s more, it is very easy to prepare. This is how an influencer presented it on his social networks.
He is the social media influencer Javier Meyer, from the Cordoba town of Saturnino M. Laspiur, who posts on his account Increíble IDEAS (Incredible IDEAS) from where he usually provides possible homemade solutions to everyday problems that are difficult to solve. One of them is how to revive car plastic.
The homemade plastic reviver is very easy to prepare
You just need a few household items, a little mixing and the reviver is ready:
- A glass (glass or plastic, it doesn’t matter, although it should be a glass that will no longer be used for drinking liquids).
- A kitchen sponge (it doesn’t have to be new, although it should not be very old or very used, so that the little pieces don’t start to come off).
- Cooking oil (not straight from the bottle but reusing some oil that was used for cooking and saved for this kind of occasion).
- Shoe polish (nothing more and nothing less than black shoe polish for shoes or boots).
- With a stick or an old teaspoon, stir and mix the polish with the used oil until a homogeneous substance is obtained.
Once the homemade reviver is finished, it’s time to apply it to the plastic of the car, something that is not too problematic and is not so different from the use of any other commercial product that seeks the same purpose as this one:
- Wet the sponge inside the container (or gently pour a small amount of the contents of the small glass onto the sponge) and begin to apply gently and evenly to the plastic to be revived. You will see how the plastic immediately comes back to life and is practically as good as new.
Other ways to revive car plastic
Although this method is very practical and cheap, there are other options that are effective, although most involve commercial products, so the price naturally ends up being higher.
In all these cases, in any hardware store or car parts shop, you can also get products for this purpose:
- Plastic restorer: with a vaporizer, you pour the product directly onto the plastic and then with a clean, dry flannel, you have to move it over the entire damaged surface you want to revive.
- Plastic polish: in these cases its function is more aimed at the lenses, which are also made of plastic. A little of the product is put on a clean flannel and spread evenly over the lens.
- Plastic wax. Unlike the other products, the wax is placed directly on the plastic to be revived. And with an element such as a small stick or a toothless comb (they usually come in the same container) go over the whole area, as if you were buttering bread for breakfast. The wax has a high capacity to revive but you also have to be more patient because, at the very least, you have to let it work for a day.
There is also another home remedy that works quite well, which is a mixture of white vinegar and water. Pour them into a glass and stir. Then, wet a sponge or flannel in the liquid and apply it to the damaged plastic, rubbing gently. Then wash with water.
