‘Deco Eighteen’, a content creator from Almería who shares homemade tricks on her social networks, has explained a simple and effective way to clean the board without resorting to aggressive chemicals. As she explains in her video, it is enough to use baking soda and lemon to disinfect and neutralize odors in a natural way.

The process is very easy. First, sprinkle baking soda on the board to act as a mild abrasive. Then add lemon juice, which helps break down food residue thanks to its acidity.

Instead of using a scouring pad, the lemon peel itself is used to rub the surface, ensuring that the product is distributed evenly. After leaving it to work for a few minutes, the excess is removed with a well-moistened, clean cloth. When the board is completely dry, it is ready for use.

What other ways are there to clean it?

Proper cleaning of this type of utensil is essential to prevent the accumulation of bacteria and prolong its useful life. Wood, being a natural material, requires special care so that it does not deteriorate over time. In addition to the trick with baking soda and lemon, white vinegar is another great ally for disinfecting and eliminating odors. Applying it to the surface and leaving it to work for a few minutes helps to keep the board free of germs.

Coarse salt combined with lemon is also an effective option, as it removes residue without damaging the wood. If the board has persistent stains, hydrogen peroxide can be an alternative for a deeper clean.

Simply apply a small amount to the surface and rinse well afterwards. To prevent cracks and drying out, it is advisable to apply mineral oil from time to time. This product helps to moisturize the board and keep it in good condition for longer.

Beyond cleaning, there are habits that can make a difference in the preservation of the cutting board. It is important to avoid leaving it to soak, as excess water can cause it to swell and crack. It is also essential to dry it immediately after washing and store it in a ventilated place to avoid the accumulation of humidity.
