Although this is a piece found in many bedrooms, there are those who prefer to replace it with other, more striking options
Most bedrooms have headboards on the beds that bring more warmth to the room while decorating and, above all, protecting the paint on the wall from wear and tear.
Traditionally, in many homes, we are used to these elements being made of wood with different types of finish, and even some time ago, those lined with fabric and upholstered with a quilted look came into fashion.
However, the large volume of this type of headboard is leading more and more homes to opt for other trends that provide a greater sense of lightness, especially in small rooms. What other options are becoming popular in 2025?
A tapestry instead of the classic headboard
Well, a very fashionable option these days is to use a tapestry in the decoration instead of wooden headboards, an artistic and handcrafted weaving technique used to create decorative panels and rugs.
Made with different materials such as wool, cotton or silk, it is possible to form detailed patterns and designs, creating a piece that gives prominence to the upper part of the bed, adding a comfortable and rustic touch.
There are many different options on the market, with varieties to suit all tastes, ranging from handmade pieces with thick weaves that add a rustic touch, to tapestries and finer prints for a modern or minimalist look.
In addition to the thickness or fineness of the texture, the colors and dimensions of the tapestry will also determine the final look of the design and how decorative it will be in the home. We can play with pieces in neutral tones such as beige and gray that will go more unnoticed or directly with tapestries with more striking colors and shapes that will draw attention as soon as you enter.
The size of this decorative element should be proportional to the bed and the wall, and we can choose whether it occupies the entire width of the headboard or only a part of it.
Another advantage is that they tend to be visually lighter than classic wooden or fabric-covered headboards, giving the impression of greater spaciousness and with the possibility of changing them more easily by hanging another one when we get tired of the first without having to carry around large, heavy boards.
Murals as headboards, the most minimalist option
If we are looking for an even more minimalist option, we can choose to use painted murals as headboards. They can be handmade or installed using customised adhesives, offering a decorative solution that brings character and exclusivity to any room. This makes the mural the centre of attention in the bedroom, providing a unique style.
One of the advantages of this trend is the possibility of doing away with the traditional headboard, freeing up both visual and physical space. In addition, painted murals offer a wide range of styles and themes, from geometric patterns and natural landscapes to abstract designs, adapting to the tastes and preferences of each person.
Murals also allow you to reflect the personality of the person who inhabits the space through unique and personalized designs. With a well-designed mural, it is possible to radically change the atmosphere of the bedroom, making it warmer and more attractive.
By not requiring a headboard, the available space is maximized. In addition, with the right materials and finishes, murals can be kept in excellent condition for years, turning bedrooms into true museum pieces.
A digital screen as a work of art
And if we want to go a step further, another possibility for a different kind of decoration is to install a digital screen on the wall above the bed to display different works of art or images that we can change at will.
At this point we basically have two options. Either a television designed specifically for this purpose, such as those from Samsung, LG, Hisense or TCL (actually a normal model would be worth it, but these have nice frames, slimmer silhouettes and specific functions). Or if we don’t want a TV because of its high consumption, we can opt for an electronic ink screen.
For example, at the last CES 2025, interesting full-color models were presented that only consume energy when the image they display is changed. This is the case of these PocketBook models for the home or these others from Samsung for the professional market.
