Every year, in the United States, billions of cups of coffee are consumed, demonstrating the country’s deep love for this beverage. According to various studies on coffee consumption habits in America, approximately 62% of U.S. adults drink coffee daily—that’s nearly 150 million people starting their day with a cup of coffee.
To put it into perspective: Among regular coffee drinkers, the average American consumes 3.1 cups of coffee per day during the workweek. On weekends, however, coffee consumption tends to decrease slightly, dropping to an average of around 2.5 cups per day.
Still, despite America’s undeniable coffee culture, the United States doesn’t rank among the top ten countries in the world for per capita coffee consumption. On average, Americans consume approximately 4.2 kg (around 9.3 pounds) of coffee per person per year—a significant amount, but far behind coffee-loving nations such as Finland, where people consume an impressive 12 kg (26 pounds) per person annually. Unsurprisingly, Scandinavian countries dominate the list, followed by the Netherlands and Switzerland, further solidifying their reputations as coffee hotspots. While America’s coffee obsession is strong, global trends suggest there are even bigger coffee enthusiasts around the world.

To improve the experience of all of them, the American neurologist Brandon Crawford has pointed out to the web portal “She Finds” five spices that, added to coffee, are beneficial for memory and mental health. These are:
- Ginger. It helps to balance the neurotransmitters in the brain, improving concentration and mental agility.
- Turmeric. Curcumin increases levels of BDNF, a hormone that promotes the growth of new neurons and combats degenerative processes in the brain.
- Cinnamon. It stands out for its high levels of antioxidants, which make it a shield against oxidative stress.
- Nutmeg. It has neuroprotective properties that improve memory and prevent neuronal degeneration.
- Black pepper. Improves the absorption of the curcumin present in turmeric, enhancing its beneficial effects on the brain.
