If what you want most after a shower is a soft, warm towel, we’ll show you the tricks to get it
No matter how much we change our softener or spend a fortune on “special” detergents, towels often come out of the wash hard, rough and with that uninviting feel after a relaxing shower. But what if the solution were an easy and surprisingly effective home trick?
The secret to getting towels as soft and fluffy as the first day is not to use more products, but to simplify. And to top it all off, we probably already have the two key ingredients at home: white vinegar and baking soda. This trick works like this: we replace the usual detergent with a cup of white vinegar during the first wash cycle. Vinegar acts as a natural disinfectant and removes soap residue that builds up on the fibers over time, which is one of the main causes of stiffness. Then, we repeat the wash, this time with only half a cup of baking soda, without vinegar or detergent. The baking soda neutralizes odors, softens the fabric, and helps restore the pH balance of the towels.
In addition to the vinegar and baking soda trick, there are some habits that make a difference. For example, not overloading the washing machine allows the water to circulate better between the fibers, and choosing a hot water program (as long as the fabric allows it) helps eliminate bacteria and traces of cosmetic products. It is also not advisable to use fabric softener on a regular basis, as over time it can create a film that prevents towels from absorbing properly. In addition, if we have a dryer, we make our goal easier. Heat and movement help to fluff up the fabric. We just have to remember not to overdo the temperature so as not to damage the fibers. If we prefer to air dry them, we should do so in a ventilated place away from direct sunlight to prevent them from hardening.
Likewise, the trick to recovering the softness of our towels does not require large investments or complicated routines. Sometimes, going back to basics is the best way to take care of both our home and our well-being.
